MAJOR PIECE OF JUNK -- don't let it near your computer ![]()

Doesn't work right. Crashes all the time, preferences window won't show up as the front window, runs TWO versions of "movietool", chugs down CPU, won't show movie names, and unbelievably, WON'T SHOW MOVIES! Even as freeware, this is junk. [alert admin]

I gotta say, if what the previous reviewer (neuaddbwll_dotmac, below) said is true, that's one of the scummiest things I've ever heard a developer do. Such a dev should be boycotted. I guess it doesn't surprise me too much though, considering what an outrageous price they charge for this ($100!). These days you can get a bootable backup app that's wayyyy more modern (in other words, doesn't look like a Windows 98 app) for half the cost. For instance, Synk Pro (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/31146) is a terrific app that only costs $45. I bought a license for it maybe five years ago, and they'll still respond immediately and answer any question or solve any problem by email or phone (though I only ever contacted them twice -- both times because I had screwed up - not the app). Or even Carbon Copy Cloner (donationware, so it's free if you have no scruples and just use it without donating) or SuperDuper! ($28 shareware), both of which can handle some fairly complex setups and will make bootable backups. So there's no way I'm going to fork out a C-note for this app. Its pice alone knocks off two stars my review, the graphics knock off another, and the way it works compared to other such apps lowers my evaluation yet further down to one star. Stlll give AppleScript error, & won't save & quit preferences ![]()

This app still gives an AppleScript error on launch (on a late-2008 2.4 GHz Intel Core2Duo Unibody 13" MacBook with 4 GB of RAM running 10.6.1, so processor speed is not the problem, as the dev suggests), and it will not save and quit the Preferences -- the window just keeps opening up again after I click Save or click the red close-window button. This would continue to happen into infinity if I kept trying. I haven't tested its DVD-ripping prowess yet because I sort of require an app to operate normally before I'll consider keeping it on my hard drive just to avoid any problems it might cause with other apps or the OS. So far, no go. [alert admin]

SMARTReporter 2.4.2 (Mac OS X)
Won't let me change disk checking interval ![]()

Every other version or so I download and try out this app again because I want it to be good and useful. Just about every time I run into a problem that makes me delete it rather quickly. This time (on my 10.6.1 2.4 GHz MacBook) it's the inability to change the disk checking interval in the Preferences (in the field just above the statement "Double click the current checking-interval of a disk to enter a new one)." I can't remember what the defect was last time. But even if there weren't some malfunction or other such problem in all the versions of this app that I've tried, I can't help but think that this technology is a bit pointless. I have used it ever since it debuted, but it has never given me any indication that the 4 drives that have died on me in that time was about to kick it. In fact, aside from the very, very few people witnessing to that effect both here and in MacUpdate.com's SMARTReporter page, nobody I know has ever been forewarned by this app or any other SMART drive notification app (such as that included in DiskWarrior, TechTool Pro, and many, many others for both Mac and Windows). Except for those very few people mentioned, every disk failure I know of has been sudden and catastrophic, not slow and incremental as it would have to be for this technology to work with enough frequency to make it worthwhile. It's sad, but I am now convinced of the truth of it. Let the fusillade of disagreement commence. [alert admin]

DMGConverter 5.2.0.6 (Mac OS X)
I've been using this app for nearly a year, and I'm sorry to say that it no longer works. And considering all the problems they had with this version, the last version, and every other version, you should probably try a different app even if the dev does come up with a new version that works, since it probably won't work for long (if history is any guide). If you don't trust me, check out the comments on MacUpdate, which for some reason seem to be far more comprehensive than VersionTracker's. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/24630/dmgconverter [alert admin]

Right-click (or Command-click) on the Flip4Mac 2.3.0.14 installer and Show Package Contents. Then just delete the Silverlight installer! It worked fine for me on a Late-2008 10.6.1 Intel MacBook. WMVs play in QuickTime, and when I double-click on a WMV file in the Finder it opens in QuickTime. It is unecessary, and both Microsoft and Telestream are friggin' EVIL for sneaking it into this app. [alert admin]

iGlasses 2.1.3 (Mac OS X)
WARNING!! This version DOWNGRADES apps that use iSight to 32-bit!!!! ![]()

They say that this version brings Snow Leopard "Support for using iGlasses in iChat, Photo Booth, QuickTime Player X and Safari" as well as "Bruji apps (BookPedia, DVDPedia, etc.)", but ALL IT DOES IS DOWNGRADE ANY OF YOUR APPS THAT USE iSight TO 32-BIT !! So, although Snow Leopard's fundamental improvement is the introduction of 64-bit processing, Ecamm Network's method of supporting Snow Leopard is to HOBBLE IT for any app that uses iGlasses ! Probably because they can't figure out how to make their app 64-bit, Ecamm Networks never warns you about (or more appropriately, "admits") this, even as their installer tries to downgrade all your iSight-using apps to 32-bit ! Their VersionTracker and MacUpdate pages never mention that their method of supporting Snow Leopard is to DEFEAT IT -- not at any time before you've made your payment (unless, of course, you figure it out yourself) ! This is nearly the worst behavior I've ever witnessed from a third-party developer, and it's definitely the most cynical. Unfortunately, the bar has been set pretty low, so "nearly the worst" behavior is what most other devs would consider "unconscionable." Either way, it's foul enough to put Ecamm Network on my "Never do business with these greedy pigs" list. [alert admin]

DropCopy 1.5.8 (Mac OS X)
Seriously, I just discovered this and it is fabulous. I have an iMac and a MacBook that alternate as my main machine, so I must constantly move files between them. This app makes doing so not only easy, but actually FUN! AND IT'S FREE!!!! [alert admin]

TransformMovie 1.1.9 (Mac OS X)
This company just disappeared!
You can't download this app because the server no longer has it. So you naturally try the app's webpage, but it's gone too. Lastly, y0u try the developer's site, but they are gone too -- and so are the 15 or so apps they sell! What happened? [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Mac OS X)
For the first time in years, when I upgraded my Late-2008 Unibody 13" 2.4 GHz MacBook from OS 10.5.7 (which always had a TON of screwed-up permissions that simply would not be fixed) to 10.5.8 ALL MY PERMISSIONS PROBLEMS WERE SOLVED! No more screwed-up permissions! Yippeeeee! [alert admin]

The developer's website says the following about Snow Leopard support for QuickAccessCM 1.7.2: "Snow Leopard does not support contextual menu plug-ins in 64 bit applications. Apple removed native support for contextual menu plug-ins in Mac OS 10.6 in 64 bit mode and replaced it with services items. So, even if the contextual menu plug-in is 64 bit, the applications will not load it. Almost all, if not all of Apple applications shipping with Snow…

Squishy was very clear: The company that makes Xtorrent is a scammer
jeepw5, I think squishy quite clearly stated that the company that makes Xtorrent [which was developed by David Watanabe] is the same company that makes Acquisition, and that company charged him for a new version of Acquisition (not Xtorrent) when they came out with a new version of it (Acquisition), even though the company previously promised that squishy would never have to pay for new versions (of Acquisition). Squishy simply warned us that the…

Your defense is to compare your company and its products to Adobe? Wow, you really need to reevaluate your heroes, and perhaps also the expectations of Mac software consumers!

In addition to all the credible criticisms above (though they are frequently unintelligible, like yours), no one abbreviates Mac OS 10.4 as you do - "OS4X". I didn't even know what you were talking about until I read the whole comment. Please either say "Tiger" or "10.4", because OS4X means nothing.

Are you completely ignorant of how corrupt this company is? Just read all the feedback here and on MacUpdate, and then go to the blog that was setup by several customers who were ripped off by this company http://boomerangdatarecoverysucks.blogspot.com For crap's sake man, do some research before you open your mouth.
